There are far too many wonderful musicals to count (and there are others whose songs I sing to myself more often), but I think the songs in Lionel Bart’s “Oliver!” (1968) are full of all so much Dickensian joy and golden-age Victorian magic that offsets all its Victorian sadness (very Dickensian, lovely) Xo
